Yes, mention Monopoly...just so you know that Parker Brothers makes games that can actually be fun for more than 2 minutes! Loop-a-Lot is loopy! If this commercial was made today, they'd have to put in the disclaimer: "Pennies not included."

And they would have to mention that you could put your eye out, kid!

And is fun for chimpanzees too.

Why on earth did they put the monkey in?

Hey, if they can put one in the White House, why not in a toy commercial?

If this commercial came out at the same time as my second favorite childhood TV show* Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp, maybe they were just trying to ride on its coattails. Just my theory, Darwin.

*My favorite being Thunderbirds. Running a very close third and eventually edging the other two out as I got older was The Addams Family. Lance Link's band, the simian version of Austin Powers's Ming Tea, was The Evolution Revolution, and not only did I have their album, but it also goes a long way toward explaining why I eventually became a DEVO fan.

But you notice, at the end of the commercial, the monkey was spinning it around vertically, instead of horizontally? I suppose this COULD be done, but that's a bit dangerous, right?

MIGHT PUT OUT AN EYE!

IT'S NOT A MONKEY!

But a chimp with an eyepatch would be pretty cool.

Seems to be one of those things, like clowns, that adults automatically assume kids will think are funny. Of course, I'm probably the only person on the planet who hates monkeys.

Chimps aren't monkeys, actually, they're apes. Don't hate the apes. We share 98% of their genetic makeup. Chimps are very sophisticated animals who can understand and use tools, like doo-dads that spin around on their fingers and hold pennies. I didn't spend millions of years evolving to have someone in an online forum confuse my (OUR!) nearest animal relatives with creatures so lethargic they couldn't even be bothered to lose their tails.

Putting that aside, I hate monkeys too. I particularly hate that Mickey Dolenz.
